ARCHERY RANGE
NO SHOOTING OR HANDLING OF ANY FIREARM IS ALLOWED ON THIS RANGE
This range is for the use of the 4-H Archery program under the direct supervision of the 4-H program directors and 4-H Certified Coaches following the guidelines contained in the GTGC Board Approved 4-H Archery Range Safety Plan. The goal is to provide participants and spectators with a safe and comfortable archery program. General Rules are adopted from publications of the National Field Archery Association (NFAA). It is the responsibility of each archer to know the safety rules, handle equipment appropriately, and shoot in a safe manner. This range is also for the use of all members and their guests. Members must bring and use their own archery targets and follow these range rules:
1. Before shooting, examine all equipment for damage or defect. After each shot, examine the arrows. If damaged, do not use it. Carbon fiber arrows especially can shatter if damaged upon release.
2. Only shoot at a target with a safe backstop, such as an archery bale or earthen berm.
3. Never draw or shoot until you verify that no one is downrange, and the range is “HOT. " 4. When more than one archer is using the range, archers should only be forward of the shooting line or retrieving arrows during a mutually agreed to cease fire, and the range is “COLD”.
5. When you are downrange, leave your bow hanging on the firing line to signal to others that you are downrange.
6. Field arrow points only. No hunting tips allowed.
7. Always keep your arrows pointed down or towards the target.
8. Never point a drawn bow at anyone, arrow-nocked or not.
9. No sky drawing.
10. Never shoot towards the sky. 1
11. Avoid shooting arrows at hard objects.
