    In-person LTC class with range proficiency qualification

    IMPORTANT NOTICE: This course DOES NOT teach you how to shoot. You must already know how to safely handle and accurately shoot a handgun before you take this course. We STRONGLY recommend that students take a Basic Pistol course if you have not handled or shot a handgun on a regular basis, or have had previous handgun training. We offer our Basic Pistol classes several times a year.

    TOPICS COVERED:
    - Use of force
    - Basic Handgun Use and Use of Restraint Holsters
    - Non-violent dispute resolution
    - Safe Storage

    To obtain a Handgun License to Carry in the State of Texas you must complete the 4-hour minimum course, qualify with a handgun in accordance with the DPS course of fire, and pass a 25 question exam. A student must then apply to the state and pay the current fees and undergo a complete background check for the state to issue a license.

    The course includes all classroom material, targets, and range fees. Students will receive the LTC-100 course completion certificate required by the Texas Department of Public Safety to become licensed to carry, upon successful completion of both the classroom and range proficiency examinations. All students must meet the following requirements:

    - at least 21 yrs of age;
    - not convicted of a felony nor charged with a felony, Class A or B misdemeanor;
    - not a chemically dependent person
    - is capable of exercising sound judgment;
    - fully qualified under applicable federal and state law to purchase a handgun;
    - not delinquent in making child support payment administered by the attorney general;
    - not currently under a court protective order;
    - in the preceding 10 yrs, not been adjudicated in having been engaged in conduct violating the law in the grade of felony.

    FAQs

    Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
    Yes, you need to bring your State Issued Driver's License or ID.

    Federal Laws set the minimum age of 21 for purchasing a handgun. However, the minimum age that a person may legally own and possess a handgun is 18.

    The LTC-100 certificate that you will be issued upon successful completion of this course is good for 12 months. We have had a number of students who attended within a few months prior to their 21st birthday.

    You must be 21 years of age to obtain a Texas License to Carry.

    What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

    Leave any firearms LOCKED in your vehicle in our parking lot. No firearms or ammunition is allowed in the classroom. More information and instructions will be provided to the student prior to going onto the range.

    What can/can't I bring to the event?

    Only those who have registered for the course can attend.

    Current, State of Texas Driver’s License or State issued ID.

    Handgun [semi-automatic (recommended) or revolver] of at least .22 caliber (.22, 9mm and .380 are acceptable).

    All firearms and magazines, UNLOADED, in a gun case or range bag. DO NOT BRING YOUR FIREARM OR AMMUNITION INTO CLASS. Leave it in your vehicle until we ask you to retrieve it. Note: An accidental discharge will be grounds for not receiving proficiency certification.

    All handguns should be in good condition (make sure your weapon is working and will operate without malfunction. LUBRICATE YOUR FIREARM!) If the Instructor deems it unsafe, you will not be able to use the handgun. Questions, please call the Instructor at (409) 210-9333 to discuss.

    Make sure you know how to use your weapon, and you have zeroed it.

    Quality Ammunition - 50 rounds, however, 100 is recommended in case of failures or malfunctions. NO RELOADED AMMUNITION WILL BE ALLOWED.

    Please bring eye and ear protection (preferably electronic hearing protection) a closed shirt to prevent brass from going down your shirt, closed-toe shoes, hat, and rain gear in case it rains.

    Lunch: Bring a sack lunch, snacks, and drinks if needed. There are no vending machines or water fountains at the range.

    Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?

    By phone: 409-210-9333 or by email: training@rwdefense.com

    Can I update my registration information?

    Yes.

    Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

    No.

    What is the refund policy?

    The only way we know that a class is full is when the specified number of students have registered and paid their tuition fees. Once that class is full, we have to turn away others who would like to attend. If you cancel too close to the class date or fail to show up for class, you keep someone else from attending and cost us a student. Please make sure that you are able to attend a class before signing up. We feel that this is a fair policy to you and all other students, and to us. In order to minimize this, we have strict policies on pre-payment and cancellation.

    Please note that there is no refund for cancellation less than 7 days before a class. The only exception is if we have to cancel the class due to unforeseen circumstances or if the minimum number of students needed for a class is not met. In those cases only, a full refund will be made. We reserve the right to cancel the class if we don't have a minimum of 6 students registered for the class.

    Course Description:
    Street Encounter
     Skills and Tactics is a 2.5 day, 24-hour course designed to inform and instruct lawfully armed citizens in their defensive decisions and equip them with realistic skills that enable an effective and lawful approach to personal security.  Employing a highly dynamic combination of lecture, demonstration, and practical application, the course goes past the concentration on shooting skills that most concealed carry classes focus on and provides a combination of “hard” and “soft” skills and strategies “beyond the gun” that opens minds and options for armed citizens.

    The class consists of four hours of video “view ahead”, followed by four hours of lecture and practical application on Saturday, and then six hours of intensive pistol skills.  Sunday is 100% range time incorporating those lessons in a challenging and PRACTICAL live fire environment.  Your mind will be educated on how to use your mind, mouth, your feet to achieve situationally appropriate de-escalation or use of force.   Cost is $400 with 500 rounds required for the class.

    Specific course content and methodology relies heavily on incorporating the science of “Recognition Primed Decisions”, deriving lessons from security videos of actual events and honing the skills most needed by ordinary people that find themselves in extraordinary circumstances.

    Topics Include

    • Developing the defensive mindset and decision-making process
    • Tactics and techniques to support the Awareness, Avoidance, De-Escalation, Evasion paradigm
    • Conflict Communications
    • Pre-Incident criminal behavior, Managing Unknown Contacts (Credit to Craig Douglas)
    • Employing pepper spray (every student will be supplied with two pepper spray trainers)
    • Stopping bleeding with pressure dressings and tourniquets
    • Shooting in 3D: Pistol ballistics and tactical anatomy considerations
    • Shooting drills and skills derived from incidents involving armed citizens
    • Decisive Movement
    • Much more that you won’t learn in other classes!

    Equipment:
    Requirements: 700 rounds of ball ammunition (factory is preferred), the pistol you carry, a QUALITY holster (No SERPA type or floppy nylon!) 4 magazines, eye and ear protection, weather appropriate clothing, sunscreen, bug repellent, notepad and pen…the usual stuff you need on the range.  Student must have had prior formal training in safety, marksmanship and presenting the pistol from concealment.   All students are expected to arrive at the course with experience and training in drawing from concealment, as well as safe gun handling practices.

    - at least 21 yrs of age;
    - not convicted of a felony nor charged with a felony, Class A or B misdemeanor;
    - not a chemically dependent person
    - is capable of exercising sound judgment;
    - fully qualified under applicable federal and state law to purchase a handgun;
    - not delinquent in making child support payment administered by the attorney general;
    - not currently under a court protective order;
